Forms of Lexicalization of Terms Referring to the Icon in the French Orthodox Terminology

We intend to present some aspects regarding the lexicalization of certain terms referring to the icon, belonging to the Orthodox religious terminology, in French. We have already defined this as a cultural (religious) type of terminology, as specialized and precise as other types of individualized French terminology, generally technical. The French-Romanian dictionary of Orthodox religious terms that is now under development as the final target of a research project financed by CNCSIS, suggests several terms from the semantic field of the icon as independent lexicographic entries; these terms refer to different types of iconic representations of the Virgin, of Christ, to places inside the church where the icons are located, to several technical aspects in iconography as well as to the veneration of icons by the believers. The liturgical, architectural, iconographic and religious components to be found in the forms of lexicalization of these terms referring to icons are also discussed.
