Bishop Nicolae Colan viewed by a contemporary erudite: Laudatio uttered by historian Silviu Dragomir upon the Bishop’s acceptance into the Romanian Academy
The anniversary of fifty years since the passing away of Bishop Nicolae Colan (November 28, 1893 - April 15, 1967) constitutes a welcomed opportunity to call a natural anamnetic halt meant to bring to the attention of our contemporaries, the leading figures of someone who was a theology profes- sor, scholar, journalist, Minister, academician, Romanian patriot, bishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj between 1936-1957, metropolitan of Transylvania between 1957-1967. The article describes how his personality was illustrated by historian Silviu Dragomir (1888-1962) upon the Bishop’s acceptance into the Romanian Academy. Silviu Dragomir’s speech goes beyond a standard response, showing that the two knew each other personally, the relationship between them being an old one. Dragomir clearly values bishop Colan’s literary, publishing, teaching and pastoral work, and describes him as „erudite teacher”, „skillful interpreter”, „publicist with deep understanding”, „cultural guide”, „the good shepherd faithful to his flock”, „dignified Romanian bishop „ and „dear colleague”.
