Face to face: Journal of Happiness and Between life and books. Memorialistic alluvia in N. Steinhardt’s essayistic: 1973-1976

Adrian Muresan, Face to face: Journal of Happiness and Between life and books. Memorialistic alluvia in N. Steinhardt’s essayistic: 1973-1976
This study depicts the ways and the purposes of N. Steinhardt while trying to fool censorship in the mid-70s, by inserting short excerpts of the Journal of Happiness - a book that was banned and confiscated by the Security - in his first volume of essays, Between life and books, published after his release from prison. The most interesting aspect of this textual contamination is the subversive component, that the author will pursue and intensify in his next volumes of essays, until his death in 1989.

Keywords: N. Steinhardt, subversion, memoirs, essayistic, resistance through culture.
