The last merchants

The article evokes the clime in Bucharest immediately after the establishment of the Communist power in Romania. In many neighborhoods of the city, there was still an archaic clime, with merchants, workshops, shops and fairs, where life was following its natural course. Although declining and regarded with hostility by the authorities, which planned their total annihilation - achieved in 1960 - the merchants, thec private craftsmen were then helpful, polite, communicative and cheerful. They were still keeping alive the music of the past, of an age when life despite the uncertain and tough times, had a different tempo, without aggression or rudeness. In time, communism will erode this climate.
