Five days in Bessarabia The article describes a visit to Bessarabia in 1994, in the context of an event organized by the BBC, and evokes places and people met there. Attention is retained by one of the Bessarabian parishes, Sângereii Noi. Father Sava used to recount that from a thousand churches in interwar Bessarabia, during the Soviet regime, only one hundred remained in function and from 20 monasteries, there was only one open. The few priests from the villages and towns of Bessarabia did not venture on the streets dressed in cassocks. Countless churches were demolished and this was the fate of the one in Sângereii Noi too.
